Ninebot Max / SNSC 2.3 Conversion- too many connectors?

Bought an el cheapo SNSC 2.3 as a project. Appears to be a decommissioned SPIN ninebot max g30. It's got an SNSC 2.3 plate. I bought a 42v charger and a dashboard off amazon (there was no dashboard to flash on the busted scooter I bought).
However, upon opening up the dash area and plugging in my new dash, I ran into a few issues:
there seem to be one too many black/blue/red cables coming out of the front of the dash. All of the color coding on the wires seems to match up, but there are two of the black/blue/red cables and only one on the dash I bought.
Second, the round connector on the dashboard has four wires (red/green/black/yellow) while the scooter's round connector has five conductors.
I decided foolishly to just roll the dice and plug my board in as-is, since the wire colors all matched up. I picked one of the two black/blue/red cables at random. Naturally there were a bunch of sparks and smoke and I fried the board. The headlight and taillight do come on when I plug it in though! (although they blink).
Anyone else seen an snsc 2.3 with an extra cable and figured out what to do with it?
And when you fry a dashboard, what's the likely culprit, specifically? IE which wires are likely color coded wrong?
I'm trying to embed my imgur uploads but having trouble. https://imgur.com/a/uSUlC9V
